Example Obituary

This is an example of an obitNow.com obituary written by young executive who has risen rapidly in the business world. He is never been ill, does not anticipate any medical problems, but wants to ensure that his record of achievement is properly recorded in the event of an accident. Since some of his hobbies tend toward the dangerous, he is convinced that he is ultimately going to die in an accident. He has even set up the first paragraph of his obit to reflect this scenario! Mr. Cohen uses obitNow.com to update his last wishes frequently to reflect his current desires and interests. He frequently changes his photo to feature himself involved in his latest sporting endeavor. He also likes to change his epitaph whenever a "better" one comes to mind. Mr. Cohen prints out each new one as he changes it and even keeps a scrapbook of his obits from each stage of his career as something of a private joke on himself.

Born in The Bronx, New York, Mr. Cohen attended local schools before moving to Scottsdale, AZ with his mother in 1972, following the death of his father Melvin, a performance artist in an accident under the Atlantic City boardwalk. His expertise with the Commodore 64 computer soon led him to northern California, where he befriended the legendary Tom Hufkin, of Enrico Computing. Soon Mr. Cohen began his own company specializing in gaming software for pre-teens.

Mr. Cohen is credited with several key developments in computer software, including the "time dilation gambit" and the "not-so-frozen animator" which were wildly popular in the early 1990's. His business career ultimately led to the creation of his present company, Canyoudigit.com, the most frequently visited web site in 1999 by the 15-19 male demographic group.

A resident of the Bay Area since 1987, Mr. Cohen was involved in series of local philanthropic causes, most notably the Fix-it Brigade of Marin County, an organization providing lodging and support for the excessively wired. In 1997 he also provided the initial funding for the grunge music Hall of Fame, currently under construction in Vallejo, California.

An avid sportsman, Mr. Cohen traveled widely seeking adventure on the edge. His exploits were often featured on a series on ESPN 2, Geeks at Play. In 1997 he was a member of the winning team for the 24 Hours of Canaan mountain bike race. In 1999 his racing car was attacked by Somali rebels during a cross-Africa race. Mr. Cohen not only survived the attack, but was able to convince his attackers to allow him to film a subsequent rebel attack on a government communications facility outside Mogadishu.

His marriages to Katherine Curtis and Tanya Porter ended in divorces.

Survivors include his wife, Jamie Lee Cohen of Novato, California; two children from his first marriage, Michael Seth Cohen and Sarah Lee Cohen of Tiburon; his mother, Mae, of Scottsdale; a sister, Denise, of Tucson, Arizona, and a brother, Ely, of Carson City, Nevada.
